Why You Should Drink Orange Juice before Your Dental Implant Treatment

What if someone told you that orange juice could help promote a smooth dental implant placement? You might think they were trying to sell you something. There is some science behind it, although it’s true that this fact is a little misleading. You see, it’s not the orange juice itself that can help with dental implant treatment. It’s the vitamin D.

Curious about how this works? Just keep reading. It gets even more interesting!

The Link Between Dental Implants and Vitamin D

You’ll need to know two things to understand the science at play here:

  1. Since dental implants are anchored to your jawbone, they rely on your jawbone’s mass to stay planted.
  2. Vitamin D promotes both bone strength and bone growth.

The connection is really rather simple. You’ll need a strong, dense jawbone in order to support dental implants. Vitamin D can toughen it up to help prepare it for your dental implants and stimulate growth to encourage a faster recovery. So it’s not some sort of miracle supplement, but vitamin D will definitely give your jawbone a boost for dental implant treatment and recovery!

Orange Juice Alternatives that Still Have Plenty of Vitamin D

Maybe you’re not the biggest fan of orange juice. That’s okay! There are plenty of other ways to get vitamin D, including:

  • Drinking whole milk. 1% and 2% milk also contain vitamin D, but whole milk contains the most by far.
  • Standing in the sun! Sunshine is the best source of vitamin D. For optimal vitamin D intake, all you have to do is find a comfy spot outside and bask in the sun for at least five minutes a day. Just keep in mind that sunscreen will reduce vitamin D intake.
  • Taking supplements. It’s easy enough to find delicious vitamin D gummies at the store. However, opting for a pill might be better, so you can continue to take the same supplement during your recovery period.
  • Incorporating fish into your diet. The ever-popular salmon and tuna varieties are excellent sources of vitamin D.
  • Eating deviled eggs – or more specifically, egg yolk. But deviled eggs are probably one of the tastier options for this source. Unless you can stomach the Rocky Balboa method and drink egg yolk straight.
  • If red meat like beef, pork, and goat meat is your favorite, you’re in luck! Carnivore-lovers can get vitamin D through these meats.
  • Or, if you lean more vegan, prepare dishes with mushrooms. Aside from oranges, mushrooms are an excellent plant-based source of vitamin D.

As you can see, simply changing your diet and spending a few minutes in the sun can go a long way towards securing a smooth dental implant treatment.

How can I Get My Dentist Involved?

Great question! You and your dentist can definitely team up for your pre-treatment regiment! Simply let them know that you’re determined to have a successful dental implant treatment. They’ll tell you how to give yourself the best possible odds. If you’re concerned your jawbone is on the weak side, your dentist can take a look and recommend solutions. Basically, they’re the pros, so don’t be afraid to ask for help!
